A complete original condition Victorian 1880's Merryweather pattern brass fireman's helmet from the small Wotton Under Edge Fire Brigade, a small town fire brigade in the English Cotswolds, within the gloucestershire District of Stroud.  This very original brass fireman's helmet displays the generic crossed axes helmet badge with original fittings, original draw string leather liner which needs attention but is complete. The leather chin scales and strap also complete. Showing signs of the action it saw in its day as an operational fire helmet, usual dents and abrasion's you would expect from an original piece. But complete and original with all Victorian round head pattern bolts, none missing. A very honest helmet which retains its grand look with the cone piece not split away at the seams. ( a very common fault with these original Victorian brass fireman's helmets, smaller properties with wooden beams etc ).

A picture of the original brick built small fire station housing a horse drawn steamer pump is added, the building now the official Heritage Centre for the Wotton Under Edge Historical Society.  I have had help in my research from Jeff Walshe a representative of the society and he kindly included photo's of the original Victorian and after Wotton Under Edge Fire Brigade.

A nice historical piece of original headgear to grace a fire collectors cabinet.
