An original issue Westmorland Fire Brigade 1948 to 1974 cap badge in used condition. A nice late 1940's issue with brass showing through the chrome plated cap fixing lugs to the rear of the cap badge. Later issues were solid chrome lugged, the badge does have some enamel damage to the centre, fixed to the standard economy issue, lined Home Office star withg a thin brass pin. 
Westmorland Fire Brigade formed in 1948 when the Fire Services Act changed fire cover back to the hands of county & county borough  + town fire brigades. It had 11 stations covering 789 square miles of the Westmorland area. The brigade merged into Cumbria Fire Service in 1974.
