West Yorkshire Fire Service was formed in 1974 after the Fire Services Act of that year disbanded all previous smaller county borough fire brigades & merged them into county fire brigades. West yorkshire covered an area of 787 square miles & had 52 fire stations to cover the area. There are 3 variations of cap badge for the fire service, the 1st was a gilt variation which is very hard to come by & only a small number were manufactured. The later 2 variations were chrome & these variations were simply a thick or a thin rim to the enamel centre.
This is the thin rim chrome variation of 1.5mm whereas the thick rim variation is 3mm. In good condition with the enamel centre fixed to the standard fully pressed issue Home Office star via 2 short straps bent outwards through a central vertical lance cut slot. Both cap fixing lugs are intact to the rear of the cap badge.
