West Yorkshire Fire Service was formed in 1974 after the Fire Services Act of that year disbanded all previous smaller county borough fire brigades & merged them into county fire brigades. West yorkshire covered an area of 787 square miles & had 52 fire stations to cover the area.
This is the 2nd pattern West Yorkshire Fire Service cap badge which was issued from 1985 onwards. Manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham it is in excellent condition, the enamel centre fixed to the standard issue fully pressed Home Office star through the central horizontal lance cut slot, both cap fixing lugs are intact to the rear of the cap badge.
West Yorkshire changed title to West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service in 1985 but elected to keep the same badge design as this 2nd pattern cap badge.
