West Sussex Fire Brigade was formed in 1948 after the N.F.S ( National Fire Service ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. The 1st pattern was used from 1948 to 1974 & then after the Fire Services Act of the same year, changed the badge design to this pattern. In force from 1974 to 2004 when the brigade changed its title to West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. With its headquarters at Chichester, the brigade covers 769 square miles of area with 26 fire stations.
This cap badge of the 1948 to 1974 era is the 1st pattern. The badge does have a slight chip to the enamel but is in otherwise good condition. The enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue, lined Home Office star via a thin brass pin, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the cap badge.
