The post war Tynemouth Fire Brigade cap badge is one of those sought after small county borough coat of arms cap badges that don’t come up for sale on the market very often in original condition!
1 fire station covering just 7 square miles is the reason why in particular Tynemouth Fire Brigade cap badges are scarce, the majority of original badges already in private cap badge collections & not many batches ordered during its lifetime!
In 1974 the fire service reforms of that year disbanded all previous small county borough fire brigades into regionally controlled fire services & Tynemouth was swallowed up by the newly formed Tyne & Wear Fire Brigade which also took in other small neighbouring county borough’s like Sunderland, South Shields, Newcastle & Gateshead & parts of Durham & Northumberland!
There is a 2.5mm thick & a later 2mm thick centre variation, the very 1st issue was this bronze base metal 2.5mm thick enamelled centre we have here. Manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham the enamel is perfect with no chips or cracks attached to the standard economy issue lined Home Office star, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear.
