Surrey Fire Brigade post ww2 era started life in 1947 when the N.F.S ( National Fire Service 1941 to 1947 ) handed back regional fire control to county & county borough fire brigades.
Boasting 47 fire stations covering 702 square miles of the then Surrey area which changed in 1965 with the forming of The G.L.C ( Greater London Council ) in 1965.
This changed boundary area's taking in some surrey fire stations, the resulting 1974 Fire Services Act abolishing all previous small county borough fire brigades in whole county brigades , Surrey was reduced to 24 fire stations covering 647 square miles area !
This original early issue Surrey Fire Brigade 1948 to 1974 period cap badge displays some enamel damage to this light red variation circlet , the enamel centre attached to the standard economy issue, lined Home Office star & both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear, showing signs of being worn on a cap at some stage in its life !
There is a dark red variation to this badge manufactured by Marples & Beasley Badge Company of Birmingham & also London Badge & Button Company.
