Suffolk & Ipswich Fire Service was formed in 1948 after the post ww2 fire service reforms & the disbanding of the National Fire Service in 1947. The act handed all regional county & county borough fire controls back to local authorities after nationalisation in 1941.
The brigade lasted until 1974 when the 1974 Fire Service Reforms Act once again expnaded all regional county fire brigades & services, swallowing up the previous smaller county borough fire brigades. The result was a changing of name & title from Suffolk & Ipswich Fire Service to Suffolk Fire Service which lasted until 2004 when the brigade once again changed its title reflecting the greater roles demanded of a modern fire service, the new title becoming Suffolk Fire & Rescue Service.
This 100% original cap badge is in great condition & would make a great addition to any fire brigade cap badge collection.
