The Soviet Russian Order of Maternal Glory was instituted by Joseph Stalin, leader of Soviet Russia during WW2. Instituted on 8th July 1944 in recognition who had given birth to more than 7 children for "The Motherland" & continued after WW2 until the demise of The Soviet Union in 1991 to The Russian Federal Republic!
Awarded in 3 grades being 1st, 2nd or 3rd class & made of solid silver & enamel, a total of 1,508,000 2nd class medals were issued & numbered. This medal is the 2nd class medal with no gilt awarded for 8 children unlike the 1st class order for 9 children. Also depicting a dark blue flag rather than red of the 1st class & the 3rd class order for 7 children had no enamel!
This nice original Order of Maternal Glory 2nd class is numbered 623737 & probably a Cold War issue, in great original uncleaned condition with no enamel damage!
