The post war Southampton Fire Brigade, formed after the disbanding of the N.F.S. (National Fire Service) in 1947 boasted 2 badges, one in force till 1964 & the second until 1974 when the fire service reforms of that year disbanded all smaller county borough fire brigades & merged them into county fire services.
This badge is a post 1976 cap badge manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges, Birmingham & is the sought after 1st pattern “shield & scroll” badge, much harder to obtain in original condition than the post 1964 red ring version of City Of Southampton although both badges are desireable by collectors owing to the size of this brigade, a very small borough & city fire brigade situated on the south coast of England in the county of Hampshire of which it is now part of Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service!
The cap badge in good condition with both fixing lugs to the rear & no chips to the enamel, (especially the scroll where this particular cap badge suffers damage owing to its length, a lot of the Southampton Fire Brigade 1948 to 1964 cap badges seem to suffer this particular fault)!
