2 patterns of cap badge exist for the post 1974 Somerset Fire Brigade, the dragon in the badge design is seen to hold a m,ace & there are 2 variations of badge, a blue mace example & a black mace example. With 24 fire stations covering 1,335 square miles of area, it changed its badge design in 2004 when the brigade changed it's title to Fire & Rescue Service. This only lasted till 2007 so Somerset Fire & Rescue badges are particularly desired by collectors as the brigade merged with Devon to form Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.

This 1974 to 2004 Somerset Fire Brigade cap badge is the blue mace variation, manufactured by London Badge & Button Company of Northamptonshire, official cap badge suppliers to the brigade. It has the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue, lined Home Office star & both cap fixing lugs are intact to the rear of the cap badge.
