Royal Berkshire Fire Brigade was formed in 1974 after the Fire Services Act of that year merged former county borough fire brigades into county brigades. Royal Berkshire was formerly Berkshire & Reading Fire Brigade & lasted in name until the title change to Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service in 1985.

This cap badge manufactured by London Button & Badge Company is the light blue variation used from 1976 to 1985. The enamel centre fixed to the standard issue fully pressed Home Office star by 2 straps, both cap fixing lugs are intact to the rear of the cap badge
