Royal Berkshire Fire Brigade was formed in 1974 after the Fire Services Act of that year merged former county borough fire brigades into county brigades. Royal Berkshire was formerly Berkshire & Reading Fire Brigade & lasted in name until the title change to Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service in 1985.
There are 3 variations of cap badge to collect from this brigade, a chrome coat of arms, a light blue coat of arms or a dark blue coat of arms.
This variation is the rarer of the 3 variations being in force for only 2 years from 1974 to 1976, depicting the chrome un enamelled coat of arms in the centre of the red disc. The badge manufactured by London Button & Badge Company  is in excellent used condition,  the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue lined Home Office star,  both cap fixing lugs are intact to the rear of the badge and show signs of being worn on a cap at some point in its life.
