This 1st pattern rarer Nazi German E-Boat combat breast badge made of zinc was instituted on 30th May 1941 & manufactured by Schwerin manufacturers of Berlin, well stamped to the rear with the fluted horizontal pin assembly intact! The top securing pin has been professionally filed off but still shows the original fitment mark that was present!
The E-Boat combat clasp was awarded for 4 noteable distinctions…..for 12 combat missions, for a particularly successful mission, for wounded or survivors of a sunken boat by enemy action or for heroic action where no other award was instituted!
There are 3 types of badge awarded, this rare early 1st pattern was only awarded till 1943 when the 2nd variation came into existence. There is also a 3rd pattern manufactured in the occupied territory of France & bears the Mourgeon stamp mark of Paris!
This badge was designed by William Ernst Peekhause of Berlin & depicts an E-Boat ploughing through the waves & encircled by with 7 bunches of double oak leaves interspaced with berries.
This first pattern E-Boat award badge bears the mark of Schwerin Berlin 68 the authorised manufacturer, the 2nd patterns had various manufacturers stamp marks including A.S, A.S within a triangle, R.K or R.S, Schwerin or W.E Peekhause! The 3rd type was solely manufactured in Paris in France & bears the stamp mark Mourgeon, Paris!
In fine original condition & well worth the investment for an original Nazi German E-Boat combat breast badge!
