Mid & West Wales Fire Service was formed in 1996 when all the Welsh post 1974 fire brigades were amalgamated into just 3 regional brigades being North Wales, South Wales & Mid & West Wales Fire Services. The Brigades that formed Mid & West Wales Fire Service were the amalgamation of Dyfed Fire Service, Powy's Fire Service & Mid Glamorgan Fire Service.
The official suppliers of cap badges to the Mid & West Wales Fire Service was Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham & there are 3 known variations in existence, 2 of which were rejected proofs because of wrong coloured enamel in certain places of the coat of arms. The 1st rejected variation was simply the wrong colour black being the knights helmet above the shield whereas the authorized colour was blue. Very few of these badges exist as only a small number were issued before being recalled. The 2nd & much rarer variation is the badge produced with a white dragon on top of the helmet whereas the authorized colour was red. None of these badges were issued so they are very hard to obtain. This variation is the correct cap badge now issued with the blue helmet & red dragon. Manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham it is in excellent condition & has the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue lined Home Office star & both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the cap badge.
