The prestigious Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, formed by the Childers Reforms of the British Army in 1881 saw action in many theatres of war during its history. Regiments merged were 47th Lancashire Regiment of Foot, 81st Loyal Lincolnshire Volunteers, 3rd Duke of Lancasters Own Royal Lancashire Militia & the 11th & 14th Lancashire Rifle Volunteer Corps!

The Boer War 1899 to 1901 saw the regiment dispatched to Kimberly & saw action throughout the siege of Kimberly where the town was under siege for 126 days until the relief of the town by British forces. During WW1 1914 to 1918 they took part in The Gallipoli Campaign, & battles against Turkish Forces in Kut & also the capture of Baghdad in what is now Iraq in 1917! They stayed in Baghdad after the Armistice with Turkey was signed on 31st Oct 1918 for occupational duties!
The regiment was renamed in 1921 as The Loyal Regiment with title change, this lovely button brooch or “sweetheart brooch” as they are also called has a fine clasp assembly & has the stamp of Jennens & Co London also on the rear!
A nice item for button or sweetheart brooch collectors alike of the WW1 era!
