Another famous regimental cap badge sweetheart brooch to a fine British Army infantry regiment.

The regiment was originally formed as a volunteer regiment in 1859 along with many other volunteer regiments, part of a widespread fear of a French invasion after the attack on Napoleon 3rd by Felice Orsinis was linked to Great Britain ! Named The London Scottish Rifle Volunteers, the regiment was sponsored by some influential Scottish people living in London, namely The Caledonian & Highland societies of London at that time. Its first commander was Lieutenant Colonel Lord Elcho & the regiment has remained part of London despite several name changes during its history, today it is known as A Company (London Scottish). There are some odd nicknames attached to the regiment... probably the most notorious are “The Cockney Jock’s” or the “Picadilly Allsorts”, however, their regimental moto “Strike Sure” was an indication that they were regarded with high esteem !
Formed as a light infantry regiment, they were the first territorial battalion to engage the enemy on 31st October 1914 in WW1 (world war 1 1914 to 1918), Messines Ridge at the 1st Battle of Ypres. In WW2 ( world war 2 1939 to 1945 ) 2 of its battalions served with The Middle Eastern Forces in Sicily. There have been 3 Victoria Crosses awarded to London Scottish soldiers.
This cap badge has a nice brooch clip & clasp assembly fitted to the rear of the badge & the badge itself is in very good condition!
