London Fire Brigade changed its title & badge in 1965 replacing the London LCC logo ( London County Council ) with this pattern, the 3rd post war London Fire Brigade cap badge. There are varieties in existence with both fat & thin crowns, also chrome & gilt versions .
This chrome version is regarded as an ERROR cap badge & was issued in much smaller numbers, the majority are gilt & it is believed that although issued the badge was wrongly produced in chrome ! In 1988 when the brigade again changed its name & badge, 2 more crowns were added to the badge! This cap badge was issued by Marples & Beasley, one of the official manufacturers of London Fire Brigade cap badges & is in used but excellent condition. The slider attachment to the rear for fixing to a cap & the enamel has no chips. Interesting to note the 2 original enamel centre fixing short prongs which are a trademark of Marples & Beasley badges & are in chrome proving that the badge is an early error badge as stated above. Some London GLC examples look chrome because of wear on the gilt patina but the rear lugs prove they were once gilt issues that have been worn !
