A nice cap badge worn by the London City Airport Fire & Rescue Service from 1987 onwards, this cap badge in good condition has the enamel centre attached to the standard economy issue home office star. The 2 cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the star & manufactured by Marples & Beasley Badge Company
London City Airport was built in 1986 & opened in 1987 by the Mayor of London, St David Rowe-Ham. It is situated within The Royal Docks in the London Borough of Newham. Situated approximately 6 miles from London City centre, the first official aircraft landing took place on 31st May by a De Havilland D.H.C-7 aircraft flown by Brymon Airways (now part of British Airways since 2010). In 2013 the airport was handling 3,390,264 passengers & 73,713 flights & the fire & rescue service have 4 major fire appliances to handle emergency situations.
