Another fine silver sweetheart brooch we have to offer, this one for The Lancashire Fusiliers, another long standing British Army regiment which dates back to 1688 ! Formed in Devon as Peyton’s Regiment of Foot after the then tradition of naming regiments after their commanders, this one named after Sir Richard Peyton. The regiment like all others of the time went through many name changes until the Childers Reforms of the British Army in 1881 & remained as The Lancashire Fusiliers until 1968 when it amalgamated with the other fusilier regiments to form The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers!

Among its famous soldiers from its long history are Edward Cornwallis, John Parr, Robert Ross & J.R Tolkien, some of the regiments actions are also famous, among them the Gallipoli campaign in WW1 where the famous “6 V.C’s before breakfast” saying comes from & the landing spot where the Battle occurred, Cape Helles has become known as “Lancashire Landing”! A commemoration takes place in the regimental town of Bury in April, the closest Sunday to the famous Gallipoli landing date of 25th April 1916 & this has continued every year, even after the last Gallipoli survivor died & will always be a proud commemoration day for the town & the regiment!
The regiment, like most British Regiments also served along the Western Front in France & Belgium including The Battles of The Somme & Verdun & took thousands of casualties, the bloodiest battle ever recorded according to history but official accounts of the numbers differ but are put at over 1 million men from both sides!
A very nice silver sweetheart brooch with jewelers quality brooch clip assembly to the rear & fine enameling to the front, a great brooch for the collector!
