A very nice example of a John Dickinson Paper Mills Fire Brigade, fireman's large brass tunic button. The button came from the Croxley Green mill in Hertfordshire which i was lucky to visit many years ago. Whilst there i enquired about any fire brigade items they had & managed to purchase several items from them. These included a black leather Hendry fire helmet with the John Dickinson F.B transfer, a cap badge, some buttons & old "chin scale" rank markings & a pre 1941 fire tunic complete.
John Dickinson was a famous 1800's mill owner who set up The John Dickinson Staionary Company ! Formerley known as Longman & Dickinson Stationary Company he opened 3 major paper producing mills, at Apsley, Croxley & Nash Mills. He died aged 87 in 1869 but not before leaving a thriving business to his nephew John Evans.
This large button is in excellent condition with clear & distinct features of the design. A very well made button to add to any collector of early fire brigade buttons.
