A very nice condition Hampshire Fire Service 1944 pattern steel fire helmet in excellent condition. These particular pattern "turtle" steel British Army Infantry helmets were used after 1947 when the National Fire Service handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Hampshire, West Sussex, Dorset & Cornwall were some of the newly formed county fire brigades that were issued these helmets upon takeover from the NFS who were using the steel Brodie pattern throughout the war. The 1944 pattern steel infantry helmet replaced the Brodies & so were issued until individual fire brigades had more money from the government to purchase modern fire uniform & equipement. So many brigades used these helmets well into the 1950's until replaced by the late 1940's pattern cork fire helmets.

This helmet is in great condition & has a 1952 dated liner which was probably issued with this helmet at the time. A great condition WW2 pattern helmet to add to any fire service helmet collection.
