This post war Gloucestershire Fire Service cap badge issued in 1948, remained in force until 1985 when the brigade changed its title to Gloucestershire Fire & Rescue Service. Official cap badge suppliers to the brigade were Firmin & Sons of London, a couple of colour varieties exist, also a 4mm or 2.5mm thick enameled centre, the former being the earlier 1st issued cap badges. This is a Firmin 2.5mm thick centre cap badge, the words "Gloucestershire Fire Service" within a red enamel circlet surrounding the county emblem of Gloucestershire. In original condition with both cap retaining copper lugs in place, (indication of an early issued badge), the enamel centre also in good condition, being fixed to the home office star by a thin brass pin which is also correct.
A nice obsolete & 100% original Gloucestershire post war 1948 issue cap badge that would grace any fire brigade cap badge collection!
