An original 1934 dated Nazi German era Luftschutz (Civil Defence) firemans helmet from the famous Auto Union car manufacturing plants of either Chemnitz or Zwickau, both in Saxony. This splendid M1934 factory stamped & dated model is in very nice condition overall despite missing the standard leather neck curtain, something that is a lot easier to obtain than this particular stalheim (helmet), the Auto Union name later becoming the famous Audi brand of today!
Formed in 1932 with the merger of 4 reputable German companies, (S. Rasmussen D.K.W, Horchwerke A.G, Audiwerke A.G & Wanderer), the name was “legend” among sports fans for decades, being dominant in G.P (grand prix) racing from 1934 onward's & still holding the fastest speed ever recorded on a public road, (still unbeaten in 2013).
Changing its name in 1949 to Auto Union GmbH the firm again changed its name in 1969 to Audi NSU Auto Union A.G & again in 1985 to its present name of Audi A.G.
This dated, early issue, civil defence (Luftschutz) fire service model M1934 Stalheim sports the Audi (Auto Union) logo of the day & a painted number 33 on the left side of the helmet. There are 2 brass round rivets at the top where a small metal cone could be fitted if required. The drawstring liner of light brown leather is complete & average condition for its age of 80 years old. It is the original liner & shows signs of wear but otherwise good condition. Please note pics of the indented dated factory stamp on the left underside of the helmet which is a standard fire service issue black painted model.
A nice collectable for the W.W.2 German headgear collector or car enthusiast alike!
