The post ww2 Eastbourne County Borough Fire Brigade was formed after the N.F.S ( National Fire Service ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. Eastbourne on the South Coast in East Sussex county lasted until 1974 when the brigade merged into East Sussex Fire Brigade after the Fire Services Act of the same year disbanded all previous county borough fire brigades.
Eastbourne, a seaside resort had 2 cap badges in force for this period, a chrome coat of arms example which lasted from 1948 to 1957 & a red ring example that lasted from 1957 to 1974. The fire brigade was a small fire brigade with just 1 fire station covering 10 square miles of area, making the Eastbourne Fire Brigade cap badges very desireable to collectors as small numbers were produced of each badge.
This is the Eastbourne Fire Brigade coat of arms cap badge in use from 1948 to 1957 & in excellent condition., the chrome centre attached to the standard fully pressed Home Office star & both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the cap badge.
