R.A.F Duxford was constructed in 1918 by German prisoners of war & is situated near the village of Duxford in the county of Cambridgeshire. It has been home to various R.A.F squadrons throughout its lifetime & in 1943 was also a United States Army Air Force base for the 8th Air Force fighter wing. Nowadays it is a Civil Aviation Airdrome & owned by The Imperial War Museum & is home to The Fighter Collection & also The American Air Museum & has many historic aircraft on display !
Fire fighting duties are carried out by Duxford Aerdome Fire Service & this cap badge is the 1st pattern in gilt & manufactured by London Button & Badge Company, official suppliers to the fire service. There is also a chrome variation of this badge. The badge is in excellent condition & the enamelled centre is fixed to the fully pressed home office star & both cap fixing lugs are in place.
