Doncaster Fire Brigade in West Yorkshire was formed very early as records indicate a fire station was built in grounds purchased in 1727 specifically for a water pumper to be housed there. The Doncaster Fire Brigade obtained it's 1st steam fire engine in 1896 manufactured by Merryweather & Sons & held a grand parade in February that year to display it. The 1st trailer pump was purchased in 1925 again from Merryweather & Sons, finally replacing the very old manual water pumper. In 1937 a new fire station was opened in Lonsdale Avenue which had 5 bays & also previously the old Merryweather fire engine was replaced with a brand new Leyland Cub Fire Engine, a machine that is still around today after being kept alive with modifications & excellent maintenance service !

The post war Doncaster Fire Brigade covered 13 square miles with the 1 fire station making Doncaster Fire Brigade cap badges fairly scarce.
It is believed that the gilt cap badges were officers issue as fewer of them are in existence. This cap badge manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham is the gilt variation in excellent condition. The enamel centre fixed to the standard issue fully pressed Home Office star via 2 straps, the 2 cap fixing lugs intact to the rear.
