The Welsh Denbighshire & Montgomeryshire Joint Fire Service was formed in 1948 after the N.F.S ( National Fire Service ) handed over fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades. This joint fire service served the 2 counties covering 1,466 square miles with 17 fire stations. The brigade disbanded in 1974 after the Fire Services Act of the same year merged all previous county & county borough fire brigades into new regional county brigades, Denbigh & Montgomery became Powy's Fire Service !
