The D.F.S ( Defence Fire Service ) was a government formed fire service & the largest non geographical firefighting service in the U.K. Formed in 1991 by the amalgamation of various government fire services such as The Army Fire Service, Air Force Department Fire Service & Admiralty Fire Service & it protects M.O.D ( Ministry Of Defence ) properties & interests throughout the U.K. 
In force for 13 years before changing its title to the present day Defence Fire & Rescue Service in 2004, these transfers are becoming more desirable to collectors because they are made of delicate paper & transfers of these types are prone to being fragile the older they get. They are applied to the helmet by means of soaking in water for a few minutes & carefully applying to the helmet, dabbing it with a dry towel to straighten out the creases before allowing to dry!
