All 3 of the 1948 to 1974 era City of Coventry Fire Brigade cap badges are very sought after by collectors and few original badges come on the open market. Many of the West Midlands smaller county borough pre 1974 era cap badges are hard to obtain, Coventry is of special note along with Walsall which also had a few different varieties in use for one small brigade, making any one of the 3 hard to obtain.
This cap badge is the gilt enamel coat of arms variation with the enamel centre fixed to the flat backed home office star. In force for just 8 years from 1966 to 1974 this is the 3rd pattern City Of Coventry post 1948 cap badge. The first was a brass shield issued from 1948 to 1952, the 2nd pattern issued from 1952 to 1966 is the enamelled shield variation & this badge, the 3rd issue from 1966 to 1974. Coventry City Fire Brigade had 3 stations covering 30 square miles of area & this 3rd issue enamel coat of arms cap badge is in excellent condition. Manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham, the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue Home Office star via 2 straps, both cap fixing lugs attached to the rear of the cap badge.
