A Bury Fire Brigade cap badge from the post war period from 1948. Bury Fire Brigade was very small with just 1 station covering 12 square miles & reformed after The 1947 Fire Services Act returned fire control from the National Fire Service (N.F.S.) back to regional county & county borough control. Bury was a small county borough in the county of Lancashire & in 1974 was merged into the Lancashire Fire Brigade!
There are 3 variations of Bury cap badge to collect from this era, the first is the gilt pattern we have here but there is also a chrome variation & another variation on a smaller home office star!
Still with only one station the cap badges from Bury are desireable to collectors & as time wears on these badges will become difficult to find in original condition! This variation is the gilt enamel 2mm centre set on a fully pressed home office star & the enamel is in excellent condition still retaining much of its gilt patina. A fine cap badge to grace any good fire service cap badge collection being a shield & scroll type badge rather than the more common “red ring” variations!
The Bury Fire Brigade has a very nice look to the badge & manufactured by Mike Trueman Badges of Birmingham is a great cap badge.
