This original W.W.2 (World War 2) Atlantic Star with sterling silver rosette clasp denotes that the awarded recipient was entitled to 1 (one) of 2 (two) bars, either the France & Germany bar or the prestigious Air Crew Europe bar!
Normal qualification for this W.W.2 star is 6 months service afloat in the Atlantic Ocean, also to be awarded the star, the recipient must first have qualified for The 1939 to 45 Star.
The Atlantic Star who’s ribbon was reportedly designed by King George 6th himself.. (it’s a know fact that he had a “hand” in designing all the W.W.2 ribbons), was well earned as the dangerous journey’s playing “cat & mouse” with Hitler’s Nazi U-Boat squadrons in the North Atlantic, supplying Russia with much needed aid.
The star awarded also to Army “Maritime Gunners” manning the anti aircraft guns & the brave R.A.F Crews who protected them, air crew only having to serve 2 months to be awarded the medal!
This Atlantic Star with silver rosette is in uncleaned original condition & regarded as fine condition.
