A nice Brighton Fire Brigade large brass button in use from 1866 to 1921 when the brigade changed to being a county borough fire brigade. This pattern of button is not easy to find & a nice addition to a pre 1941 fire brigade button collection.
Brighton formed its first fire brigade in 1831 called the Brighton Fire Establishment. This button came into use around the time that Brighton formed a volunteer fire brigade in 1867. ( Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade ) This lasted until 1921 & ran alongside the full time Police Fire Brigade which was formed from the previous full time service in 1881. Both brigades merged in 1921 when the town renamed the brigade Brighton County Borough Fire Brigade. An example of the button used is also shown which remained in use until 1941 when Brighton became part of the National Fire Service. Pictured alongside an example of this button are the other pre & post war buttons for Brighton County Borough Fire Brigade from 1921 within my personal collection.
