Blackburn Fire Brigade post ww2 came into force in 1948 after The N.F.S ( National Fire Service ) handed back fire control to regional county & county borough fire brigades.
Blackburn was a small brigade with just 1 fire station covering 13 square miles of the surrounding area & lasted until 1974 when a new Fire Services Act amalgamated all previous county borough fire brigades into county brigades. Blackburn became part of Lancashire County Fire Brigade & the badge of Lancashire County was issued to all Blackburn firefighters, the old badge became obsolete.
In the late 1980's a few large badge companies produced commemorative boxed set cap badges that formed certain county fire brigades. These badges were manufactured using original obsolete centres & fixing them to modern Home Office stars which were being used by the companies at the time. The boxed county sets were produced in limited numbers & also a badge list of available spare badges was produced known as "The 89 to 91 Badge List badges".
This cap badge is a Jeeves Badge Company of Liverpool manufactured badge & is a lugged boxed set cap badge manufactured in the late 1980's by Jeeves who had the contract to manufacture the Lancashire County Boxed Sets. The badge is in good condition, the enamel centre fixed to the standard fully pressed Home Office star by a thin brass pin, both cap fixing lugs intact to the rear of the cap badge. The Jeeves stamp mark clearly impressed on the rear of the Home Office star.
