A damaged but re useable original Birmingham Fire Brigade 2nd pattern brass helmet badge in use by the brigade. The badge was originally on an officers nickel silver helmet, which perished in a devastating house fire in 2009. There are still traces of the original nickel finish, there are no rear helmet fittings on the rear of the badge. I still have all the original brass helmet badges i had in my collection, which slid down intact after the soft soldered lugs melted. The badges were protected by the amount of debris that covered them, i have cleaned some up as best i could and one day will attach them to original standard pattern brass helmets of the type used by each brigade.

These 2nd pattern helmet badges used from early 20th century were also attached to the leather Manchester Pattern Hendry helmets the brigade wore operationally. This badge was from a ceremonial nickel silver officers, apron fronted helmet !
