Barnsley Fire Brigade post 1948 had just 1 fire station covering 12 square miles, making original Barnsley cap badges quite sought after. There are 3 main variations for collectors, a gilt or a chrome variation set on a normal Home Office star & also a small star variation. This variation is the gilt variation with the enamel centre fixed to the standard economy issue, lined Home Office star. Both cap fixing lugs attached to the rear of the cap badge. I believe the star, although an original star, is not the one issued with the centre which is also original. The 2 drilled holes i suspect the original star was damaged & this star replacing it
