A Sphinx commemorative medal for General Dwight D Eisenhower & another commemorative medal for General George Smith Patton, 2 great U.S (United States) military commanders of WW2.
Both medals are in good condition, one in gold gilt metal & the other white metal portraying both great leaders. George Smith Patton was born 11th November 1885 & died on 21st December 1945 just after the war finished. He became notorious for his sometimes outrageous public speaking, his attitude of leading from the front & his strong approach to rapid & offensive action in battle also gained him much respect & admiration from the 3rd Reich Nazi German military leaders as well as inspiring his own troops. He was made Governor of Bavaria after the war but was relieved of his post after a short time because….(yes you’ve guessed it, his OUTSPOKEN views), especially on denazification & he died in the December after a car crash, the wounds he received 12 days earlier proving fatal.
David Dwight Eisenhower was born 14th October 1890 & not only a great military leader in World War 2 (WW2 1939-45) but reaching the grand heights of President of The United States Of America from 1953 to 1961. Known popularly as “Ike”, General Dwight D Eisenhower was The Supreme Allied Commander of Europe during ww2 & in 1951, two years before being elected president, was Nato’s Supreme Commander! He died 28th March 1969 at the age of 78 from heart failure at the Walter Reid Army Hospital in Washington D.C.
A nice pair of unusual military medals for the medal collectors.
