A very distinct badge of this famous British Army cavalry regiment, originally The Duke of Cambridge’s Own 17th Lancers until amalgamation with the Empress of India’s 21st Lancers in 1922, the older style badge looked more fearsome & was similar to the German Panzer badge of the period which displayed a similar skull.
All cavalry regiments of “the old guard” became armored regiments & the 17th / 21st Lancers saw action in WW2 in Tunisia & Italy, they took heavy losses in Tunisia in 2 note-able battles at the Fondouk Pass & Kasserine Pass & was refitted before deployment to Italy. They ended the war in Austria!
After ww2 ( world war 2 ) they were deployed to Palestine in 1948, after which, most of the Cold War period they were deployed in Germany as part of The British Army On The Rhine! Seeing action in Northern Ireland during the “troubles” they were amalgamated in 1993 to form The Queens Royal Lancers!
The famous moto “Death or Glory” is still remembered & the skull & crossbones badge with the title “Or Glory” in the scroll underneath the skull is probably one of the most recognized of British Army badges!
This tie clip is in good condition & looks very distinct on a tie with the white metal central badge & a nice red enamel scroll making it stand out!
